Man arrested for stealing gold chain from Yuen Long jewelry store

A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly posing as a customer to steal a gold chain valued at approximately $22,000 from a Yuen Long jewelry store on Sunday.

Police responded to reports around 6pm that a man had entered a jewelry store at 87 Castle Peak Road-Yuen Long, requested to try on a gold chain, then fled toward Nam Pin Wai. Officers intercepted the suspect 400 meters away near Yuen Long MTR Station on Long Yat Road, subduing him on the ground.

The stolen chain was recovered from the suspect. Further investigation and CCTV review connected him to an October 24 theft at another jewelry store on Castle Peak Road-Yuen Long, where a gold bracelet worth about $18,000 was stolen.

The suspect, surnamed Pang, has been arrested for two counts of theft and remains in custody. The case has been assigned to the Yuen Long district crime squad.
