A man in his fifties lost the tip of his right finger on Friday morning at the Kai Tak Sports Park when a bowling lane machine he was inspecting suddenly reactivated, trapping his hand in a freak accident that has stunned colleagues and prompted an urgent safety review.
The incident unfolded around 10.23am today inside one of the park’s bowling facilities.
The worker had safely powered down the equipment for routine checks, but another staff member—apparently unaware of the maintenance—flipped the switch back on.
The machine whirred to life, clamping the man’s finger in its mechanism.
His cries of agony alerted nearby coworkers, who rushed to his aid and called emergency services.
Paramedics arrived to find the worker conscious but in severe pain, his fingertip cleanly severed.
He was swiftly transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for surgery and treatment.
