An 82-year-old man's fatal fall in Tsing Yi on Wednesday afternoon led police to discover the body of a woman inside his residence, with authorities now treating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide.

Police responded to Cheung Hang Estate at 2.29pm after the man, surnamed Lam, was found unconscious at the bottom of a slope near Hang Chi House parking lot. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

Officers visiting Lam's residence in Cheung Wang Estate discovered the unit unlocked and found a 56-year-old woman, surnamed Chung, unconscious inside. Medical examination confirmed she had died.

The relationship between the two is still under investigation. Sources said the pair were living together, and the man allegedly killed the woman after suspecting her of infidelity. The man is understood to have a history of mental illness.

Police have reclassified the case as murder and suicide, assigning it to the Kwai Tsing district crime unit.

Forensic teams collected evidence at the scene Wednesday evening as officers maintained a heavy presence at the building, requiring residents to show identification for entry.
