A hairy crab shop in Mong Kok has been targeted by burglars, resulting in a loss of 50 hairy crabs valued at HK$5,000 and cash amounting to HK$3,000.
On Sunday at noon, police received a report from a staff member at a hairy crab shop located on 3 Yu Chau Street, indicating that the refrigerated cabinet storing the crabs had been prised open. Around 50 hairy crabs were stolen, along with HK$3,000 in cash, resulting in a total loss of HK$8,000.
The back door lock of the shop was also prised. Officers suspected that the burglars broke in through the back door during the night.
Chan, the shop owner, stated that a female colleague discovered the open cabinet door and the disorganized placement of the crabs when she returned to the shop this morning. After counting, they confirmed the loss of 50 hairy crabs weighing about 5.5 taels.
Chan added that he operates three specialized hairy crab shops in Sham Shui Po and opened this branch in Mong Kok. Just 19 days after opening, they faced a burglary, leaving him feeling helpless.
