The government aims to finalize the second phase planning for the development scale and distribution of industries to finalize the Hong Kong Park of Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone overall layout within this year.
Speaking at a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area symposium, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said that the first three buildings of the Hong Kong Park's initial phase have been completed, with tenants gradually moving in. The Co-operation Zone is expected to commence operations before the end of the year officially.
To accelerate construction, Lee said a cross-departmental task force has been established to streamline the approval process for the Hong Kong section of the Co-operation Zone.
The government has already released the remaining plots of land in the park's first phase with a "moving in while construction is underway" approach to provide flexibility to the companies to move in earlier.
Lee emphasized that the Greater Bay Area development is a key national strategy and a critical pathway for Hong Kong's integration into the country's overall development. He described it as a "game-changer" that breaks regional boundaries.
