Hong Kong's media was urged to play a pivotal role in showcasing the city's role in "bringing in and going global" -- serving as a platform to prompt Mainland enterprises for overseas expansion -- as emphasized by top officials during a 76th National Day celebration event hosted by local media.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and Director of the Liaison Office Zhou Ji highlighted the media's function in promoting Hong Kong's unique charm and supporting its economic ambitions on the world stage.
Lee underscored Hong Kong's strategic position as a bridge for mainland Chinese companies expanding into emerging global markets, especially as global trade patterns shift.
He noted that the city also benefited as mainland enterprises tapped into emerging markets, seizing opportunities in services, professional expertise, and financing to foster mutually beneficial partnerships.
To streamline this process, Lee announced the launch of the GoGlobal Task Force earlier this week, designed to provide a one-stop platform for mainland firms seeking to go global via Hong Kong.
The initiative, he explained, will harness cross-departmental resources to boost the city's economy by facilitating international business expansion.
Lee urged the media to amplify these efforts by vividly conveying not only the city's policies and infrastructure but also its intangible opportunities and cultural vibrancy to global audiences.
Echoing this sentiment, Zhou encouraged journalists to embrace their role as storytellers of China's progress and Hong Kong's unique place within it.
He emphasized the importance of crafting narratives that resonate internationally, highlighting the success of China's modernization and the advantages of the "one country, two systems" framework.
Zhou praised the media's potential to shape a credible and appealing image of China while rallying support for Hong Kong's governance and development.
He also acknowledged the local press's recent transformation, urging it to continue fostering consensus, promoting positive energy, and contributing constructively to the city's bright future.
