A 23-year-old student from the University of Hong Kong pleaded guilty Thursday (Oct 9) at the Eastern Magistrates' Court to two counts of voyeurism, after being accused of recording two classmates in the male bathroom of a student dormitory in September last year.
The defendant, Chung Chun-yu, was released on a bail of HK$500 as the case was adjourned to November 14 for sentencing, with a Probation Officer’s report and a community service orders suitability report expected.
It was revealed that the defendant placed his phone inside a hollow basket covered with a towel to film the male victims while they were showering in the Madam S H Ho Residence for Medical Students. One of the victims discovered the phone and reported it.
Chung admitted to the crime, citing sexual desire and an interest in male bodies as motivations.
The defense submitted written pleas on behalf of the defendant, emphasizing that this was an isolated incident. The magistrate acknowledged the guilty plea and agreed to consider the defendant's personal circumstances before sentencing.
