Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy ships Qi Jiguang and Yimengshan departed Hong Kong waters on Friday morning after a four-day port call, commencing the next phase of their overseas mission to Cambodia, Thailand, and Singapore.
The two ships left their berths at the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong garrison's Ngong Shuen Chau Naval Base to the sound of farewell horns.
Their departure through Victoria Harbour and past Lei Yue Mun was witnessed by residents and tourists along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, many of whom gathered to photograph the vessels.
The ships had first arrived in Hong Kong on September 30, making this their first visit to the city. During their stay from September 30 to October 2, they were open to the public, allowing thousands of Hong Kong citizens and students to board and tour the vessels.
The ships are carrying over 1,200 naval cadets and officers on a comprehensive far-sea training and visit mission that began on September 26. A cadet on board described the training as focusing on developing their basic nautical literacy and skills in operating astronomical and geographical instruments.
Following their visits to Cambodia, Thailand, and Singapore, the flotilla is expected to organize similar ship opening activities for overseas Chinese and patriotic compatriots in those countries, fostering exchanges and mutual learning with the host navies.
