A video capturing a couple carrying two young children to experience the storm when Typhoon Wipha impacted Hong Kong has gone viral online and sparked considerable criticism from internet users.
Throughout the footage, the parents maintained smiles, while the two toddlers appeared to cling anxiously to their shoulders.
The video triggered a heated response online, with netizens overwhelmingly condemning the parents for exposing their young children to such peril in pursuit of experiencing the storm.
According to Sing Tao Headline, the sister publication of The Standard, barrister Albert Luk Wai-hung asserted that the parents' behavior may constitute negligence in child care, which could be classified as child abuse.
He denounced their actions, emphasizing that young children are predominantly passive in their responses. Given the parents’ awareness of the typhoon signal, taking the children to the scene to witness the storm was deemed profoundly irresponsible and posed significant risks.
