Excitement is building for the upcoming "CHIIKAWA DAYS" exhibition in August, as fans lined up on Sunday for the distribution of free "party kits" themed around its three main characters.
Randomly distributed across MTR stations, including Kowloon, Austin, Tai Koo, and Tseung Kwan O, each party kit features a character-themed paper hat and a "crusade stick" balloon. Over a hundred fans arrived at Austin station around 11am to claim their kits, resulting in a line forming by 12.30pm due to the growing crowd.
While some immediately tried on the paper hats for photos, several waited at the station exits, hoping to trade for their favourite character with other fans.
The organizer, AllRightsReserved(ARR), indicated that the vouchers for the kits were fully claimed within 10 minutes of becoming available online on June 27 at 11am.
In addition to the party sets distribution event, another pre-heat celebration for the highly anticipated exhibition will take place on July 5 at Salisbury Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Fans can not only step into the classic scenes from the comic with art installations with the party sets, they can also engage with the main three characters Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi during meet-and-greet sessions at 11.30 and 5.30pm.
The star turn, the 24-day "CHIIKAWA DAYS" exhibition will begin on August 1 at K11 Musea , featuring 3D sculptures, a 9-meter tall inflatable sculpture, and numerous iconic comic scenes under the themes of "clothing, food, housing, and transportation."
Spanning across indoor and outdoor areas with three ticketed zones, fans can visit Chiikawa's home, take on defense challenges, and experience unique Hong Kong-themed spaces, along with classic scenes like an internet café, ramen shop, prison, and other notable moments from the comic.
Additionally, there will be dedicated stores for ticket holders and a public store selling Hong Kong exclusive "dim sum" character merchandise designed by the author Nagano.
The eight comic characters will be transformed into various dim sum shapes, such as salted egg yolk layered cake, sausage rolls, and siu mai.
While the ticket holder store will offer priority access on August 1 to special edition items, the public store will open on August 4, requiring advanced registration.
Tickets will be available in two rounds on July 5 and July 9 through Klook, offering two types of tickets.
General admission tickets are priced at HK$180, with holders receiving a randomly assigned character name card charm upon entry. The HK$420 "Premium Set" will include the exhibition ticket, a complete set of nine character name card charms, and a glowing "crusading stick" with RFID functionality for use in the interactive areas of the exhibition.
In an exciting announcement, exhibition sponsors such as Octopus Cards Limited and McDonald's disclosed that there will be a series of promotional activities for fans.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board's Executive Director, Dane Cheng Ting-yat, expressed confidence that the exhibition will attract overseas tourists, noting plans are underway to enhance promotion in Japan and Southeast Asia, along with themed travel packages to attract more overnight visitors to Hong Kong
