The Transport Department ??has just made it easier for drivers to apply for their International Driving Permit with the introduction of self-service kiosks at its Hong Kong Island and Kowloon offices.
Starting January 13, the International Driving Permit self-service kiosks, located at the department’s Hong Kong Licensing Office and Kowloon Licensing Office, will provide one-stop application and same-day collection services.
The kiosks will be available between 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday. Citizens holding a Hong Kong identity card and a Hong Kong full driving licence which is still valid or has not expired for more than 3 years can make reservations through the online booking system. Eligible individuals will have to make reservations through their "iAM Smart+" account.
According to the department, the self-service kiosks will help applicants take photos on site. Applicants will only be required to produce proof of address and make payment via electronic payment methods.
With all necessary documents in place, applicants will be notified via SMS on their mobile phones for collection within an hour, said the department.
The current application methods through the HKGov website, in-person at licensing office counters, and those via drop boxes and mail, will remain unchanged.
