First govt-approved e-payment platform for taxi launches

A new e-payment platform for the taxi industry - the first approved by the Transport Department - was launched on Tuesday and offers 18 e-payment options for fares.

The platform, named Taxi Pay x Wonder, comes with a smart taximeter and supports payment by credit cards, FPS, Apple pay, Google Pay and WeChat Pay, etc.

Passengers can pay the fares by tapping their cards or mobile phones to the payment machine or scanning the QR code on the taxis. The funds will then be directly transferred to the taxi driver's account.

The operator said 1,500 sets of smart meters have been installed on the taxis as of March and aims to extend to over 8,000 by the end of the year.
