The Centre for Health Protection is now investigating two suspected food poisoning clusters after five people had raw oysters and scallops at The Oyster House in QRE Plaza, Wan Chai and fell sick.
The first cluster involved one man and two women, aged between 26 and 30, who developed abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and fever about 15 to 44 hours after having dinner last Saturday.
The other cluster involved two 29-year-old women, who developed abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting about 25 to 28 hours after having dinner the next day.
All citizens affected did not seek medical advice as they remained in a stable condition.
Initial investigation revealed that they had consumed common food, being raw oysters and scallops. The incident might have been caused by norovirus and/or Vibrio parahaemolyticus, the CHP said.
Staffers from the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have conducted an inspection at the restaurant. The CHP’s investigation is also ongoing.
The CHP reminds the public to avoid eating raw seafood, handle raw and cooked foods carefully and separate them completely during the cooking process, and ensure food is thoroughly cooked before eating to prevent foodborne diseases.
