China on Friday appointed Nong Rong as deputy head of the State Council Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, according to a human resources ministry statement.

According to photos released by the government, Nong was beside the office’s director Xia Baolong when he landed at the airport on Thursday.
He was also seen sitting next to Zheng Yanxiong, director of the Central Government’s liaison office in Hong Kong, during an exchange session with officials of the SAR government.
Nong, 56, had worked over an extended period in Guangxi and was appointed as the mayor of Guigang city in December 2015.
Nong was appointed as ambassador of China to Pakistan in September 2020 and named the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs in February 2023.
