In a bid to attract more tourists and form another tourism model other than consumption visits, the government is actively exploring new attractions, including transforming Lau Fau Shan into an eco-tourism hub.
According to the documents submitted to the Legislative Council by the Tourism Commission, authorities are considering feasible plans to promote the tourism potential of Lau Fau Shan in line with the district's development plans and timeline.
One of the plans is to develop a seafood street in the area as Lau Fau Shan will be one of the stations of the proposed Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Railway Rail Link (Hung Shui Kiu - Qianhai), and an influx of additional visitors is anticipated.
Separately, the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD) is conducting a feasibility study for establishing a Wetland Conservation Parks System, which is expected to be completed in the first half of the year.
AFCD and TC have secured funding approval from the Finance Committee to enhance the exhibition and visitor facilities of the Hong Kong Wetland Park, further strengthening its position as a green tourism destination.
The ongoing projects include updates to thematic exhibition galleries and facility enhancements.
The AFCD is also working on the development of Sam Po Shue Wetland Conservation Park, in which 10 hectares of land will be reserved for the construction of eco-education, leisure, and eco-tourism facilities.
