There were more Valentine's bouquets being showcased at the Mong Kok Flower Market, and more and more men continued to arrive to buy at the market, some with their families.
A single rose is generally sold for about HK$50 at the flower stalls, while a "soap flower" made of cheap materials only costs HK$20.
The flowers generally come in a bunch of 10 or 20 flowers, and the price depends on the size and variety, ranging from HK$380 to HK$680.
But if they wanted to buy preserved flowers, a small bouquet of three roses would cost nearly HK300. There were also some high-end flower shops selling red roses imported from South America, with 10 costing over HK$2,000, and longevity flowers that can be displayed for a long time, with 3 blue roses priced at HK$1,680.
The flower shop owners stated that business was not bad but thought it could be better.
An elderly local surnamed Fan said that despite being at an older age now, he would still prefer to come to Mong Kok from Sham Shui Po to get flowers for his wife, having kept up with this habit for around 40 years.
In addition, he stated that he would also eat cake with his wife during the special occasion.
He spent HK$300 this time to buy roses and thought that the price was fair and was similar to other places as well.
Another local surnamed Chan stated that he has been buying flowers at the market every year for the past 20 years, and had spent HK$600 this time to buy flowers for his wife.
He thought the price was similar to last year and reasonable.
