Chief Executive John Lee Ka–chiu sent his greetings to Hongkongers on the first day of the Lunar New Year, wishing citizens good health, to feel energetic like a dragon, and happiness in family life.
Speaking on a radio program on Saturday, Lee said dragons in legends are swift-footed, agile, and brave, and believes that the city will be energetic, aggressive, and stronger as it overcomes every challenge that confronts it, with much room to expand.
Lee also stressed that the government is striving for the economy, development, and improvement of livelihood.
He added that he will stay in Hong Kong to celebrate the Lunar New Year and believes he will be working most of the time. Still, he will make time for his family.
Lee referred to the motto of former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping and said horse racing and dancing will go on in Hong Kong this spring festival.
He further explained that horse racing is the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Chinese New Year Raceday on Monday and dancing is the Cathay International CNY Parade tonight.
He also pointed to other celebrations including the fireworks display on Sunday, the Chubby Hearts Hong Kong starting Valentine’s Day, as well as the Day and Night Vibes activities.
Lee said the global economic focus will shift to the East and Asia will be the most important engine for global economic growth. Hong Kong will continue to attract overseas companies and investors as well as talent.
In a video uploaded onto Facebook, Lee alongside his wife Janet Lee Lam Lai-sim wished Hongkongers the best of luck in the Year of the Dragon.
