The accident, which occurred suspectedly because the cabby Kok Yat-sum ran a red light leading to a double-decker colliding into the taxi, resulted in the death of well-known plastic surgeon Wilson Ho Wai-sun, 59, and a 47-year-old mainland woman.
Kok was subsequently charged with dangerous driving causing death and the case was heard at Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday.
Since Kok is still in hospital, principal magistrate Ivy Chui Yee-mei accepted the prosecution’s request and adjourned the case to next Monday (Jan 22) or whatever dates that see her discharged.
Kok will be in police custody until her next court appearance.
The accident happened around 9.30 pm while the taxi, traveling along Fleming Road, collided with a Citybus double-decker, which wasn't servicing a route, when it reached the junction at Harbour Road.
Both Ho and the woman were trapped in the taxi before passers-by pulled them out unconscious and suffering from head injuries.
Ho was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital but was declared dead at 11.18 pm. The mainlander was sent to Ruttonjee Hospital and declared dead at 10.08 pm.
Kok was also sent to Ruttonjee with minor hand injuries before being transferred to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.
