Staffers of Hong Kong’s flagship carrier Cathay Pacific are expected to see a 3.8 percent salary hike in 2024, according to an internal memo.
After announcing the distribution of the one-month discretionary bonus last week, Cathay further announced in the memo that it will increase the salaries of all eligible employees in Hong Kong by 3.8 percent.
The increase will take effect starting January 1, 2024, and will be shown on January’s salary slip.
This doesn’t apply to the salaries of employees in other regions and the rates will be subject to regional adjustments.
Cathay said the group has been progressing in a journey of rebuilding and extended gratitude towards staff members for their contribution.
On another note, Cathay’s director of digital and IT Lawrence Fong Yat-cheung said the airline’s IT department has about 60 members of staff so far, including some 120 from mainland cities like Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
Fong continued that the department plans to expand its team by hiring another 200 from both Hong Kong and the mainland.
He noted that mainland users may have different needs in terms of IT and pointed to the importance of recruiting mainland talent.
Fong also said since the border has opened last year, the turnover rate of IT staff has returned to a reasonable level and maintains between 5 to 6 percent.
