A joyful hotpot lunch at a Wan Chai restaurant on Friday turned into an accident after a cassette gas cartridge for a portable stove exploded, injuring three patrons.

The accident, which occurred around 12.59 pm at the 616 Hot Pot on Jaffe Road in Wan Chai, saw three patrons suffer injuries to their chest, arms, neck, and ears.
The explosion shattered the cassette gas cartridge and splashed glass debris, food, and the soup base at the patrons. The three patrons, two women, and a man, were sent to the hospital for treatment.
Sources said the cassette gas cartridge was produced by Cambo and was made in China, with the serial number “BDP-250-H”.
The portable stove was also said to be made in China.
Police and Electrical & Mechanical Services Department officials were on the scene investigating.
