Long queues at border checkpoints as Easter holiday travellers return to HK

Those who want to skip the long queue for public housing flats can consider eight “haunted” flats.
The eight are among the 1,400 flats available under this year's Express Flat Allocation Scheme for public housing. Flat selection can start this Friday.
The eight flats are considered “haunted” as murder took place there before, or a tenant died inside the flat.
They are located at Fu Kwai House of Tai Wo Hau Estate, Ying Kwai House of Kwai Chung Estate, Oi Fai House of Yau Oi Estate, Nam Lok House of Nam Shan Estate, Ching On House of Tsz Ching Estate, King Kung House of Choi Wan (II) Estate, Wing Shui Building of Lek Yuen Estate and Green Heron House of Sha Kok Estate.
At Room 1110 of Nam Lok House, a 57-year-old man stabbed his 40-year-old wife in the back due to relationship issues in 2018. The wife died. The original monthly rent for the flat is priced at HK$2,104. Those who want to move in can get a 50 percent discount for eight months.
Another flat at Ying Kwai House was where a murder took place in 2020. A mother drugged her 21-year-old mentally disabled son to sleep and suffocated him with plastic tape, a process witnessed by her other 13-year-old son.
The monthly rent for these eight flats range from HK$1,236 to $3,606. Four of them won't offer any discount on rent.
According to the Housing Authority, the flat selection exercise for households with two or more persons will commence on Friday. A total of 1,426 flats will be offered in this round, while the authority already received around 60,000 applications.
