Singer Vivian Koo almost receives "empty jab” in Ma On Shan

Singer Vivian Koo Ya-mei was sent to hospital after she almost received an “empty jab” yesterday in Ma On Shan, according to sources. She has left the hospital already. 

Koo arrived at Ma On Shan Family Medicine Centre yesterday to receive Covid-19 vaccine. When administering the jab, the nurse didn't notice she was using an empty syringe until she tried to inject the vaccine into Koo's body. 

The nurse immediately paused the vaccination process. 

Koo later felt unwell and was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital. She has left the hospital already. 

Today she said on social media that being alive is the luckiest thing that happens to her after the incident. 

Government advisor Leung Chi-chiu said that there is no risk if only normal saline – saltwater is injected into human body. Yet scenario varies if air is injected into the body. 

It is not a big problem if air is injected into muscles. However if air is injected into blood vessels, the air bubble will flow through the vein and may block the vessel. Tissues of the lungs may be hurt if the air bubble entered the lungs, according to Leung.
