A video clip that shows a hedge fund manager in Hong Kong licking his fingers and rubbing them on an MTR train handrail, has angered social media users and backfired on him, forcing an apology.
The clip has gone viral and Joel Werner, the chief investment officer, of Solitude Capital Management, has explained it was made to illustrate fake news on the new coronavirus in social media.
Werner, says he personally apologizes “for the distress caused,'' from the “parody video that was olny intended for a handful of friends.''
He has owned up to the video, which he has said was posted to a private WhatsApp group, but denies putting his fingers in is mouth. He says he used hand sanitizer "before and after I touched the pole.'' He had filmed another video of him cleaning up afterwards.
Werner repents in a social media post: “I unreservedly apologize to anyone that I may have offended.''
