The 2026 Lunar New Year Cup kicked off at 3pm today at Hong Kong Stadium, with Hong Kong taking on K League side FC Seoul amid strong fan turnout.
Hong Kong captain Tan Chun-lok leads the starting lineup, with Everton and Juninho spearheading the attack. FC Seoul is captained by former South Korea international Moon Seon-min, with ex-internationals Kim Jin-su and Cho Young-wook on the bench.
Crowds arrived well before 2pm, many in Hong Kong jerseys.
Fans said they have long followed the annual Cup and hope both teams play enjoyably.
A father attending with his son called it a Lunar New Year Day 5 tradition for years, hoping to pass it on, and welcomed interim coach Roberto Losada’s debut while urging more chances for young players.
A tourist from Zhejiang, who watched on TV over a decade ago, expressed excitement at finally attending in person and anticipation for Hong Kong’s performance.
Road closures and traffic diversions are in place from around 12.30pm before kickoff and again from about 4:30pm after the match.
