Primary one discretionary places results out Monday as success rate climbs to 52.3pc

The results of Primary One discretionary place (DP) allocations for government and aided schools will be released next Monday, with the Education Bureau (EDB) reporting an overall success rate of 52.3 percent for the 2026–27 school year.

A total of 37,581 children applied for discretionary places, down 4,200 from last year. Of these, 19,656 secured a place — an increase of 2.9 percentage points year-on-year.

According to the EDB, 9,477 of the successful applicants were “legacy students,” meaning they have siblings currently studying in the school or parents working there. The remaining 10,179 were admitted under the points-based selection system.

Parents who have activated their POA e-platform accounts can check the results from 10am next Monday. Those using the paper application form may visit the applied school between 9am and 5pm the same day to view the outcome in person.

Successful applicants must complete registration next Wednesday or Thursday during school hours at the school to which they have been admitted.

For children who fail to secure a discretionary place, or families opting only for Central Allocation, the bureau will issue written notifications in mid-January. Parents will be invited to submit their school choices for Central Allocation via the ePOA platform from January 19 to 25, or in person at a designated Central Allocation Centre on January 24 or 25.
