Chief Executive John Lee congratulated candidates returned to the Election Committee following Sunday's subsector by-elections and thanked all participating voters.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, Lee said the 1,500-member committee from 40 subsectors demonstrates broad representation and balanced participation under Hong Kong's improved electoral system.
"The Election Committee plays a pivotal role in the implementation of the principle of 'patriots administering Hong Kong'," Lee said, adding that members will be responsible for nominating candidates for the general election of the eighth-term Legislative Council and electing 40 LegCo members in the Election Committee constituency on December 7, 2025.
Lee expressed expectations that every committee member would fulfill their responsibilities to contribute to the implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle.
The chief executive also thanked government personnel and others involved in organizing the by-elections for ensuring they were conducted fairly and orderly.
