The recent birth of a second child by a 58-year-old woman in Hong Kong through in vitro fertilization(IVF) treatment has made headlines in the city.
The mother, Chan Lai-lai, who is also the wife of local actor Brian Wong Chak-fung, first captured public attention six years ago when she welcomed their first daughter as a geriatric mother-to-be at the age of 52.
In a social media announcement on Saturday (Sep 6), the couple shared the news of their new arrival, revealing that both mother and baby are in good condition.

Speaking to the media, Wong disclosed that their second daughter was born on August 22, weighing 3.34 kg (approximately 7.35 lbs).
Wong revealed that Chan underwent a scheduled cesarean section at 37 weeks, noting that their new daughter is already heavier than her sister was at birth.
He was surprised with the striking resemblance between the two girls, calling them both "beautiful."
After returning home from postpartum care, Wong expressed admiration for Chan’s ability to breastfeed at her age.
Reflecting on the birthing process, Wong highlighted the differences between the two pregnancies, explaining that they opted for in vitro fertilization this time.
Wong recounted receiving consultations from the Prince of Wales Hospital and CUHK Medical Center, where he learned that Chan set a record as the oldest mother at the hospital, with doctors interested in studying her case further.
Additionally, Wong hoped their experience can assist other couples looking to conceive at CUHK Medical Center.
Regarding the costs associated with the hospital, Wong emphasized that safety was their top priority, expressing gratitude for both his wife and their newborn daughter’s health and happiness.
When asked about future family plans, Wong stated, "Having two girls is already fulfilling, I am very grateful."
The couple, married in 2010, has long yearned to become parents.
During Chan's previous pregnancy in 2019 at 52, she faced challenges, including eczema during pregnancy and pre-eclampsia, which required her to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for observation.
Chan’s successful delivery at the remarkable age of 58 has fulfilled the wish for a "healthy and safe baby" that her daughter made on Mother's Day, bringing joy to their family of four.
