The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI), celebrating 75 years as a recognised governance leader in Hong Kong, has announced a significant scholarship endowment from China Resources Group to support governance education in four Hong Kong universities. China Resources Group is one of the key state-owned enterprises with eight listed companies in Hong Kong.
Over the last three decades, HKCGI has established enduring partnerships with several local universities, offering students the unique opportunity to become qualified governance professionals through the Collaboration Course Agreement (CCA) programmes. These Master’s programmes in corporate governance, designed to meet HKCGI’s rigorous professional training standards, provide students with a clear pathway to HKCGI membership. This membership unlocks a wealth of cross-industry roles in governance functions, including trust and company service providers, compliance, and other sectors that demand specialised governance skill sets.
The “China Resources Corporate Governance Scholarship” spanning five academic years, will annually recognise up to 50 outstanding students who are studying for Master’s programmes in corporate governance in four local universities, including The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
This significant scholarship ensures more students can access the necessary education and training to excel in governance. It also provides internship and job opportunities to encourage young people to pursue careers in the governance professionals industry.
In addition to this generous support, HKCGI, with its HKCGI Foundation, underscores its ongoing commitment to nurturing a new generation of young individuals who are equipped with a global vision, aspirations and positive thinking to become governance professionals.
With roots in Hong Kong stretching back for 80 years, the China Resources Group has launched this scholarship as one of its multiple initiatives to help young people in Hong Kong overcome challenges in education, employment, entrepreneurship and home ownership.
HKCGI is one of the fastest-growing divisions of The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI), having over 10,000 members, graduates and students with significant representations within listed companies and other cross-industry governance functions.
Believing that better governance leads to better decisions for a better world, HKCGI’s mission is to advance governance in commerce, industry, and public affairs through education, thought leadership, advocacy, and engagement with members and the broader community. As recognised thought leaders in our field, the Institute educates and advocates for the highest standards in governance and promotes an expansive approach that considers all stakeholders’ interests.
