One of the two suspects wanted for a murder case in Sha Tin last month has been arrested in Thailand and will be deported, the country’s authorities said on Tuesday.
Thai Immigration police arrested the Hongkonger at a rented house in the beach town of Pattaya on Monday.
The male suspect, identified only as Truong, 25, was staying with a Thai girlfriend, according to Panumas Boonyaluck, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau.
He is one of the suspects in a murder case on March 16, in which a 52-year-old died after being assaulted by two assailants with knives outside 3A Lai Wo Lane in Sha Tin.
The assailants then boarded a taxi and fled, the Hong Kong Police Force earlier said.
The murder reportedly arose from a conflict over an illicit drug deal.
Panumas said Truong fled to Thailand on the night of the killing.
Hong Kong authorities issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest and sought cooperation from the Royal Thai Police, according to Thai authorities.
Immigration police tracked the suspect to the rented house in Pattaya and arrested him. He would be deported back to Hong Kong, Panumas added.
