The Hong Kong Observatory issued its first Cold Weather Warning this winter at 4.20 pm on Thursday as a dry winter monsoon is bringing cold weather to southern China. It also warned that temperatures tomorrow will fall to as low as 12 degrees Celsius.
Under the influence of the dry winter monsoon, temperatures over Guangdong in the afternoon were generally 3 to 4 degrees lower than those of yesterday. The weather watchdog also noted that an area of low pressure near the southern part of the Philippines is bringing unsettled weather to the region.
The temperature on Friday is forecast to drop to a minimum of 12 degrees Celsius in the urban areas, and a few degrees lower in the New Territories. It will be very dry during the day with a maximum temperature of around 19 degrees. There will also be moderate north to northeasterly winds.
Members of the public are reminded to put on warm clothes and ensure adequate indoor ventilation.
“If you know of elderly persons or persons with chronic medical conditions living alone, please call or visit them occasionally to check if they need any assistance,” said the forecaster.
