Driver jailed for 4 years and 10 months over Tai Po crash that killed 2

A driver has been jailed for four years and 10 months over a crash in Tai Po that killed two people and injured five others in 2021.

Ho Man-hei, 25, appeared at the District Court on Tuesday. He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing death, and two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

The case relates to a traffic accident in Tai Po in October 2021 that saw a head-on collision on Bride's Pool Road involving a Lamborghini Huracan Performante sports car, two sedans and a motorcycle.

Police’s investigation later revealed that Ho was racing with a friend at that time.

Handing down the sentence, Judge Merinda Chow Yin-chu said Ho was racing illegally with others at the time of the accident, posing extreme danger. She noted Ho’s action is selfish and disregarded the safety of other road users.

Taking into account the circumstances of the injured and deceased victims in the case, including the defendant's girlfriend losing her ability to care for herself after being injured, as well as the defendant's show of remorse, Chow sentenced Ho to  4 years and 10 months of imprisonment.
