Lamborghini driver among two dead in Tai Po black spot smashup

A 23-year-old driver has been arrested after two people died and five were injured in a head-on collision on Bride's Pool Road in Tai Po involving a Lamborghini Huracan Performante sports car, two sedans and a motorcycle on Sunday night.

A Honda Civic driver named Ho, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He was being detained at Prince of Wales Hospital's custodial ward in Sha Tin as of last night.

Ho's Civic and a Toyota Corolla were on Bride's Pool Road - a notorious black spot for accidents - heading toward Luk Keng in North District, police said.

Nearing Fung Hang Family Walk, police added, the driver of the Corolla lost control, colliding head-on with the Lamborghini on the opposite lane.

The Corolla shot into the air, landing on the Civic behind it, before bouncing forward and turning turtle.

A motorcycle trailing the Lamborghini toppled after swerving in an attempt to avoid crashing into the car.

The Lamborghini driver, Lui, 41, died instantly after suffering horrific skull fractures. The Corolla driver, Fung, 20, died at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital late Sunday after sustaining multiple injuries.

Fung's 24-year-old female passenger, who suffered multiple injuries, survived and was sent to North District Hospital in Sheung Shui unconscious.

Ho's two passengers - a man and a woman aged 25 and 24 - and motorcyclist Kwok, 25, were all rushed to Alice Ho hospital conscious.

Ho's female passenger and Fung's female passenger were later transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital, where they were in serious and critical condition, respectively. As of yesterday, Ho was in stable condition.

The Corolla driver and his female passenger, as well as the Lamborghini's driver, were pulled out of their vehicles by firemen.

The Lamborghini driver - whose skull was said to have been broken - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later, the Corolla driver was declared dead at Alice Ho hospital.

Fung's family held a one-hour roadside ritual for him at the accident scene yesterday.

Sources said the Lamborghini driver owned a clothing factory.

In August, a 29-year-old male motorcyclist died after he crashed head-on with another motorcycle on the opposite lane on Bride's Pool Road.
