More than 460,000 visitors arrive in Hong Kong as Labour Day ‘golden week’ holiday begins

More than 460,000 travelers poured into Hong Kong from mainland China and elsewhere on the first day of the Labour Day “golden week” holiday.

Immigration Department figures showed that among the 460,000 travelers who entered Hong Kong through various control points yesterday, over 180,000 were mainland travelers.

Of the land crossings in Hong Kong, most travelers entered the city via the Lo Wu checkpoint, with over 160,000 arrivals, followed by the Lok Ma Chau spur line, the Hong Kong International Airport and the West Kowloon Station.

Meanwhile, the department also noted that over 340,000 people traveled out of Hong Kong yesterday, with some 195,000 of them being Hong Kong residents.

Immigration director Benson Kwok Joon-fung said some 200 additional immigration officers were deployed yesterday at control points to cope with the visitor flow.

He also called on travelers to use the department’s mobile app to check the estimated passenger waiting time at all land boundary control points to Hong Kong.
