A red muntjac was rescued and sent to Kadoorie Farm for treatment after it was found stuck in the fencing near the bushes at Piper’s Hill in Cheung Sha Wan early Wednesday morning.
A report was made to the police by a citizen who was exercising around 6 am and passed by Piper’s Hill Reservoir on Caldecott Road.
It was suspected that its hip had sustained an injury resulting in the muntjac – about one-meter-long – becoming stuck in the fencing.
Police and firefighters soon arrived at the scene as well as staffers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Yet, the muntjac was in shock and kept struggling to get out whenever rescuers approached it.
Firefighters later broke open the fencing and successfully freed the muntjac. No apparent injuries were found upon a preliminary health check-up.
It was then sent to Kadoorie Farm for further examination and treatment by vets.
