Police announce special traffic arrangements on New Year’s Eve

Road closures and crowd management measures will be implemented starting New Year’s Eve for the public to welcome the New Year, police said on Friday. 

Roads in West Kowloon including the Museum Drive, Canton Road, southbound Kowloon Park Drive, Nathan Road, Chatham Road South, Salisbury Road and the Hung Hom Bypass will be closed starting 6 pm before the New Year fireworks display. 

Starting 6.30 pm, roads near the Star Ferry Bus Terminus including northbound Kowloon Park Drive will also be closed. 

To better convenience citizens to leave after enjoy the fireworks display, police starting 11.45 pm will close westbound Austin Road, as well as Canton Road, Nathan Road, Granville Road and Kimberley Road outside China Hong Kong City. 

In Wan Chai, Expo Drive East at the north of Expo Drive outside Golden Bauhinia Square including the pick-up and drop-off areas will be closed from 7 pm to 1.30 am on New Year’s Day. 

Starting 9.30 pm, road closures will be implemented in Central and the Eastern District in phases, including the Central Ferry Piers, roads outside Tamar Park, the East Coast Park, and Hing Fat Street on Tin Hau. 

Police will cordon off Jaffe Road, Lockhart Road in Wan Chai, Wharf Road and Tong Shui Road on North Point starting 11.55 pm. 

As for Lan Kwai Fong, certain roads will be closed starting 2.30 pm on New Year’s Eve until 5 am the next day. 

Some minibus stops and taxi stands may be suspended. Police may also expand the area of the closed zone.
