Mercury dips to 11.4 degrees

The Observatory recorded 11.4 degrees Celsius in the urban areas this morning, which was the lowest temperature since winter set in, while the Cold Weather Warning was also issued.

The weather today will be generally cloudy and dry, with partly sunny skies in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature will be around 15 degrees.

About 18 temporary cold shelters were opened to the public in various districts to cope with the cold weather.

Citizens, especially the elderly and the chronically ill, should take appropriate measures to protect their health since the cold weather can easily trigger or exacerbate diseases.

It is expected that the winter monsoon will continue to affect southern China tomorrow, and it will be cloudier in the city. With the monsoon persisting, temperatures will be relatively low in the morning and at night over the coast of southern China in the latter part of this week.
