Hong Kong's lacrosse team makes history by reaching the top 14 after defeating Mexico

Hong Kong blew out Mexico with a score of 14-7 to secure a place in the top 14 for the first time at the World Lacrosse Men's Championship. 

In their final group stage match, the Hong Kong representatives had to defeat Mexico with a goal difference of at least 6 in order to make it into the playoffs as the runner-up in the group.

The game started with Dash Tsai setting Liam Ferris up from behind the goal to open the scoring before doing it all himself to double the lead. Logan Ip continued his remarkable form to net another two for Hong Kong, creating an early 4-goal advantage for the Hong Kong team.

The team continued to exploit the patchy Mexican defense and entered the second half with a five-goal advantage at 6-1.

The Mexican side came alive in the second half, narrowing the score to 7-11 at one point by going on a 4-score run.

The Hong Kong team punched their ticket in for the next round by scoring three consecutive goals and ending the match at 14-7, successfully leapfrogging Wales and entering the top 14 with a result of three wins and one loss.

The top scorer of this game, Ip, scored six goals, including the final goal.

Reaching the top 14 at the World Lacrosse Championship will be the best tournament result the Hong Kong team has achieved so far, beating their previous ranking by 13 spots.

"I am so proud of these players," said Hong Kong team assistant coach Jordan Wong. "In our preparations for this year's World Championships, the goal was to be in the top 14."

Hong Kong's first playoff game will be against the No. 3 seed Haudenosaunee on Wednesday.
