Typhoon signal raised to T8, remain in force until 6pm

The Hong Kong Observatory issued the No. 8 Northwest Gale or Storm Signal at 1.40pm on Wednesday. The signal will remain in force until at least 6pm tonight. 

According to the latest forecast, Nalgae will be very close to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary tonight, skirting within around 150 kilometers to the south of Hong Kong. Local winds will change gradually from northerlies to easterlies today. Areas which were previously sheltered may become exposed.

At 2pm, Severe Tropical Storm Nalgae was centered about 170 kilometers south-southeast of Hong Kong and is forecast to move northwest at about 10 kilometers per hour edging closer to the vicinity of the area to the west of the Pearl River Estuary.

Under the combined effect of Nalgae and the northeast monsoon, local winds are expected to gradually strengthen in the afternoon today.

Rainbands associated with Nalgae will affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. Showers over the territory are expected to become more frequent later today.

Seas are very rough with swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Tate's Cairn, Waglan Island and Cheung Chau were 62, 48 and 44 kilometers per hour with maximum gusts 71, 55 and 62 kilometers per hour respectively.

The Education Bureau announced that classes of all schools are suspended on Wednesday. Schools should implement contingency measures to ensure the safety of students. 

 

Special transport arrangements are currently in place as Nalgae approaches Hong Kong.

MTR:

MTR’s rail and bus service frequencies are being increased to meet passenger demand. Passengers are advised to allow additional travel time as Crowd Management Measures may be in place in some stations.

KMB and LWB:

The service of the following routes suspended:

Routes 3D (Special Departures to Tsz Wan Shan (South)), 3M (Choi Wan Special Departure), 5C (Yuk Wah Street Special Departure), 13M (Special Departure), 14D, 17(Special Departure), 23 (Shun Tin Special Departure), 28S, 31A, 34 (Fu On House Special Departure), 43D, 77K (Ping Kong Special Departure), 78, 78B, 82B, 83k (Shek Mun Special Departure), 83P, 86S, 87P, 89S (Shu Chuen O Special Departure), 93M, 214P, 214 (Po Tat Special Departure), 241X, 288A, 288B, 288C, 296M (Tong Ming Court Special Departure).

Due to the temporary closure of Hong Kong Disneyland, the service of the following route has been suspended: Route R33.

The service of the following routes will be adjusted: Routes E37C and E42C will provide services starting from 12:00 pm. The original-scheduled departures this afternoon will be canceled.

Citybus and NWFB:

Routes 3A, 19P, 23B, 40P, 73P, 81A, 82S, 85A, 85P, 90C, 91A , 93, 93A, 93C, 95P, 702A and 702S. Expected for the above mentioned routes, all NWFB and Citybus routes are maintaining normal operation.
