A post-graduate hostel funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club opened at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on Monday.

The HK$176 million and eight-story building provides much-needed, green hostel space, and offers over 500 beds for students, wardens, tutors and staff.

Officiating at the opening ceremony on Monday were the Club’s deputy chairman Michael Lee Tze-hau, HKUST council chairman Andrew Liao Cheung-Sing and president Wei Shyy.

Lee said: “The Club’s support for HKUST reflects two key areas of its charitable focus – ‘children and youth development’ and ‘talent and capacity building.’ We strongly believe in the need to develop the skills, knowledge and capabilities of our young people. We also want to cultivate compassionate individuals committed, like the Club, to the betterment of our society.”
