Wong Chun-keung, the leader of the "Dragon Slaying Brigade," testified in the trial of Hong Kong's first anti-terrorism law case that he had intended to flee from the SAR upon completion of their plan to target police with firearms and bombs during a Human Rights Day march on December 8, 2019.
Wong, considered the mastermind behind the operation, revealed that the brigade held a meeting in Tsuen Wan's Sam Pei Square in late November 2019, attended by four defendants in the case - Cheung Chun-fu, Cheung Ming-yu, Yim Man-him, and Christian Lee Ka-tin.
"During the meeting, it was decided that we would not personally use firearms or bombs on that day, but would instead provide assistance to other protesters," Wong said.
Chat records between Wong and Cheung Chun-fu indicated that the primary target was the police and they planned to cause as much harm as possible.
Wong confirmed that the final plan's location in Wan Chai and the detailed map were selected and provided by technician Ng Chi-hung who had pleaded guilty in February. Ng was also responsible for providing the firearms for the operation.
On the day before the march, Wong reminded other members of the group not to bring tools or weapons for the operation, but only to wear black shirts and gloves. He had already prepared the necessary equipment and petrol bombs for the operation.
The court had previously learned that the brigade consisted of a sub-unit of some 10 members, including Cheung Chun-fu, Cheung Ming-yu, Yim, and Lee.
Wong also revealed that his plan was to leave Hong Kong with the brigade members after their operation. However, his proposal failed as he was arrested in the early hours of December 8, 2019.
The court also heard that in September 2019, Cheung Ming-yu had undergone military training in Taiwan with Ng. The training included physical and tactical exercises.
After Wong accepted Ng's proposal to use bombs during the protest, he began planning the sub-unit's escape route. He also arranged for a two-week military training session in Taiwan for all members of the brigade.
