Cui, 59, assumes his new role following the departure of Liu Guangyuan, who stepped down from post last July.
Liu now serves as the deputy director of the liaison office in Hong Kong.
The appointment of Cui Jianchun was welcomed by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, who praised Cui's extensive experience and described him as a seasoned diplomat.
Lee expressed his confidence in Cui's leadership, emphasizing the importance of close collaboration between the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR and the SAR government in advancing various areas of work.
Lee also noted that the OCMFA has provided consular protection and appropriate assistance to Hongkongers in distress overseas.
Previously, Cui was the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria since 2021. He also served as minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in France, Chinese ambassador to Kuwait, as well as deputy director-general of the Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Before becoming a diplomat, Cui had worked in the China National Nuclear Corporation for more than 20 years.
