Peek into uni life for school kids

Over 110 students from 15 primary schools in Tuen Mun got a taste of university life during an experiential event called "A Day at University" at the Lingnan University on Saturday.

The event was jointly hosted by the university, the Tuen Mun District Office of Home Affairs, and the Tuen Mun District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee.

In its 10th year, the event included STEAM elements for the first time, aligning with the government's efforts to promote STEAM education and raise awareness of sustainable development concepts. The university's Science Unit provided a variety of STEAM activities, such as plastic classification, kitchen waste processing, and biodiversity.

In a session about food waste management, Paulina Wong Pui-yun, head of the university's science unit, showed students how the university uses food waste from the student hostels and canteen to feed black soldier flies. Mature black soldier flies are used as high-quality feed for animals on the campus such as turtles.
