A mainland tycoon has offered a reward of HK$10 million for the arrest of his attackers - the most put up by an individual in Hong Kong.
Qian Fenglei, a friend of Alibaba founder Jack Ma Yun, and his assistant Fang Yuan were attacked by four men armed with knives when they left The Dynasty Club in Wan Chai in the early hours on Saturday. The attackers escaped.
Qian - also known as "Lots of Money" - is the director of Universal International Holdings (Hong Kong). It published yesterday a full-page announcement of the reward in Sing Tao Daily, The Standard's sister paper, hoping to find the four attackers.
"The culprits - of Chinese nationality - disregard the law, breach public peace and trampled on Hong Kong's law and order," Qian said in the announcement.
Qian said he put up the reward to help police hunt the attackers and bring them to justice.
He added that anyone who can provide reliable information or evidence, such as videos that capture a silver private car and its car plate number will be rewarded with a maximum of HK$10 million or a "proportional amount" of the reward.
"If a person can provide reliable information and evidence to testify against the mastermind of the attack and the culprits are successfully convicted in Hong Kong, a higher amount of reward can be negotiated," Qian wrote.
For those who would like to provide relevant information to Qian, they can contact his representative law firm - Tung, Ng, Tse & Lam Solicitors - on 2518-8181 or 5420-0591. They can also inform any police station or the crime squad of Wan Chai District, which is in charge of the case.
Qian turned 44 yesterday and wrote on Weibo that each year he gives back to society by making donations. However this year, instead of donations, he will reward those who have information related to his attack.
Mainland media Global Times uploaded security camera footage of the attack on its Weibo account.
It shows three masked men armed with knives get out of a silver car that is trailing Qian's vehicle. They run toward two people - believed to be Qian and Fang - and attack them outside the clubhouse.
With the fourth culprit behind the wheel, the three jumped back into the silver car after the five-second attack. The car then drove away.
Qian's thigh and hands were slashed by the knifemen.
He was discharged from Eastern Hospital on the same day.
His assistant, Fang, 48, suffered multiple injuries to his head and back.
