The Buildings Department approved five building plans in February, including a project acquired by the family of Shik Kam-fai, known as “the King of Mahjong.”
The approved plans include two on Hong Kong Island, two in Kowloon and one in the New Territories, covering three for apartment and apartment/commercial developments, one for factory and industrial development, and one for community services development.
Among them, a site at 179-183 Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei was approved for a 21-story residential tower atop a three-story podium for commercial and residential use, with a total gross floor area of about 14,483 square feet for residential and 2,858 sq ft for non-residential use. The property was acquired in 2023 for HK$118 million by the Shik family.
Consent was given for works to commence on 11 building projects in February which, when completed, will provide 15,150 square meters of gross floor area for domestic use across 333 units, and 24,868 sq m of gross floor area for non-domestic use. The department has received notification of commencement of superstructure works for four building projects.
The department also issued 17 occupation permits, with four on Hong Kong Island, five in Kowloon and eight in the New Territories.
