HKBU sci-fest goes zero for hero

Hong Kong Baptist University's faculty of science will hold the Science Festival 2024: Waste-Free Future event on July 5.

In view of the new municipal solid waste charging scheme, this event aims to spark the public's curiosity, inspire them to explore science and the importance of waste management.

The event will feature a series of activities for secondary school students. Participants can learn about biochar magic, a cost-effective and eco-friendly material for addressing water pollution challenges and its principles.

One highlight will be the Smart Bin DIY Workshop as a microcontroller, sensors, and actuators will be provided for participants connected to a web browser.

Participants will learn coding and mathematical calibrations so they can customize the smart bin.

The Waste-Free Science Competition will be launched at the event to promote innovative thinking and waste reduction.

Teams of secondary three or above will participate in workshops, quiz challenges and create video pitches.
