Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has awarded over HK$37.5 million in cash incentives to more than 110 medallists to reward the Hong Kong delegation, as the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games concluded on Sunday.

Hong Kong ultimately captured a historic high of 11 gold, 19 silver, and 24 bronze medals this term, setting new record highs in both gold medals and total medals won.

Under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme, Individual gold, silver, and bronze medallists receive HK$1 million, HK$500,000, and HK$250,000, respectively. Team finishes are rewarded with HK$2 million, HK$1 million, and HK$500,000 for the top three.

Among the winning athletes, Siobhán Haughey won two gold medals and one silver medal in individual swimming events and a silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay. She was awarded a total of HK$2.7 million from the scheme.

“Once again the Hong Kong, China Delegation showed our city’s can-do spirit with an outstanding display of skill, resilience and true sportsmanship,” chief executive of HKJC Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said.

HKJC has supported sports development at both elite and community levels over many years, from the funding of the establishment of Hong Kong Sports Institute to helping to build the foundations for the success of our top-performing athletes, he added.
