The beloved dog of firefighter Ho Wai-ho, who died in last year’s Wang Fuk Court blaze, has passed away, with his fiancée sharing an emotional farewell and saying the pet could now reunite among the stars with him.
Ho, 37, who was posthumously conferred the honorary title of Senior Fireman, died in the line of duty during the No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po last November.
His fiancée, Kiki, shared news of the passing of their 10-year-old Shiba Inu on Weddesday, saying she took comfort in knowing the dog was now at peace.
“Daddy and mommy love you so much. We know you're a good boy. Go find daddy, and don't worry about mommy. We'll meet again on the 15th,” she wrote.
Photos shared by Kiki captured happier moments the three had spent together, including hiking, running and trips to the beach.
Her post quickly drew messages of support, with social media users urging her to take care of herself and saying Ho and the dog were now watching over her like stars.
Ho was posthumously awarded the Medal for Bravery (Gold) in July for his courage and sacrifice during the deadly fire.
According to the official citation, Ho was among the first responders deployed to the blaze and continued rescue operations despite extreme heat and fierce flames. He was later rescued unconscious and pronounced dead the same day.
Earlier this year, Kiki also revealed that an asteroid discovered by Hong Kong-born astronomer William Yeung Kwong-yu had been officially named “34871 Howaiho” in tribute to Ho.
The International Astronomical Union approved the name, allowing Ho’s name to live on in the solar system as a lasting tribute to his bravery.
