Recently, a large group of young women has been gathering along Stubbs Road from early morning until late at night. Observers noted the crowd pointing their smartphones toward the rooftops in Mid-Levels, capturing the attention of passersby.
It is understood that the group was waiting to catch a fleeting glimpse of a well-known mainland Chinese actor at a filming location, showing immense determination despite the long hours.
On August 20, an observer reported seeing dozens of Mandarin-speaking women congregating in the area.
According to accounts of the scene, the crowd was fully equipped with cameras and smartphones, continuously aiming their lenses at the nearby rooftops. Some individuals even brought folding chairs and extra supplies, indicating their readiness for an extended stakeout.
After inquiring with the crowd, the observer learned that they were waiting for mainland celebrity Cheng Yi, who was shooting scenes for an upcoming drama. The observer expressed amazement at the dedication of the fans, noting that they were willing to wait from dawn to dusk just for the star to make a brief appearance on the roof, demonstrating the massive drawing power of top-tier mainland entertainers.
The behavior of the fans has sparked discussions online, with some people questioning how the followers could afford to spend entire days waiting instead of working. Others familiar with the situation shared that similar groups had camped out in Kowloon Bay for several days the previous week, solely to watch the idol enter and exit his vehicle.
These gatherings have also raised concerns about public order. Local residents urged the fans to pursue their interests without disturbing the daily lives of Hong Kong citizens. Many emphasized that regardless of whether the celebrities are from Hong Kong or the mainland, disruptive fan behavior should be discouraged.

The suspense drama being filmed, titled "Hunting Lies," is reportedly the debut project from veteran entertainer Eric Tsang's newly established production company. The series boasts a powerful cast, led by Cheng Yi and award-winning actress Anita Yuen, with heavyweight guest appearances from Tony Leung Ka-fai, Karen Mok, Carman Lee, Edmond Leung, and Xu Zheng.
As the production shoots across various locations in Hong Kong, it continues to attract massive crowds of devoted fans. During an earlier shoot on Lyndhurst Terrace in Central, an estimated crowd of over 200 fans swarmed the area. The sheer volume of people severely congested the street and created significant noise, eventually requiring police officers to arrive at the scene to assess the situation to maintain order.
