Hong Kong Customs arrested a 68-year-old mainland woman at the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point on Thursday for allegedly smuggling three live cats into Hong Kong.
The cats, valued at about HK$36,000, were found in her personal belongings during an inspection. The case has been handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for follow-up.
Under the Rabies Regulation, illegal import of animals carries a maximum fine of HK$50,000 and one year's imprisonment.
