The defendant, Rose Isabel Anonia Barbra Eudora, was convicted at the District Court on Tuesday (Mar 3) and remanded in custody pending sentencing on July 22.
The court heard that the defendant met the British banker, known as “X”, during a trip to Thailand in late 2023 and later travelled to Hong Kong at his invitation.
The pair went to a serviced apartment in Central. Two days later, X transferred 5,000 pounds to the defendant.
The defendant subsequently reported to police that she had been subjected to non-consensual vaginal and anal intercourse. X later attended a police station to assist with the investigation.
According to X’s evidence, the pair met at a beach party in Thailand in late December 2023 and remained in contact. The defendant travelled to Hong Kong on January 31, 2024. That night, the two engaged in intimate acts. She later indicated she did not wish to proceed with intercourse, and X stopped.
In messages sent the following day, the defendant accused X of “violating” her and demanded money. While X initially transferred 5,000 pounds to cover her expenses, she later raised her demand to 100,000 pounds, threatening to report him for rape.
She subsequently filed a police report, leading to X’s arrest. Investigations later found the allegations to be false.
In her judgment, Judge Tse Ching Adriana Noelle said such accusations are easy to make but difficult to refute, and using them as threats would cause fear.
The court found the defendant had fabricated the allegation and knowingly made false statements to police, resulting in X’s arrest and amounting to acts tending to pervert the course of justice.
The defendant cried in court after the verdict, saying: “I am so scared” and “I want to go home.”
She remains in custody pending sentencing.
